A place where family and friends can stay connected

27 Weeks along and a belly to prove it!

May 17th, 2010 Posted in Family by Jose | No Comments »

Kate is 27 weeks along with twin girls. She is due in mid-August, but most twins arrive early, so if everything goes well, we expect Nadia and Isabel to arrive in late July or early August.

Here are a couple of pictures of Kate and the belly.

A day out with Thomas and Friends

May 16th, 2010 Posted in Family, Trips by Jose | No Comments »

Yesterday we went down to the steam train station in Essex, CT where Thomas was visiting to celebrate his 65th birthday. We had fabulous weather, and really enjoyed the day out. We took some pictures with Thomas which I have included below.

Moved into our new house

May 11th, 2010 Posted in Family by Jose | No Comments »

It has been a very busy 5 months since my last post, we have moved back to the US, have twin girls on the way, bought a house and I started working from a new office. A lot of change in a very short amount of time.

Our 3 1/2 years in Switzerland were a great experience, and while we decided we could not end up calling Switzerland home, there are definitely a few things we will miss. The feeling of safety and security, the efficiency of the public transportation system, the beautiful views of the lakes and the Alps, the Rösti (a Swiss version of hash browns) just to name some.

It was clear to us, however, that living in a non-English speaking country is too much of a challenge. Constant reminders every time we received a letter from the tax authorities, our local community or even most of our service providers, and all the work involved in trying to translate such notices (Thank you Google translate!) Most trying of all was being away from family and friends, having to get on a plane any time we wanted to visit with our parents (CT or Mallorca).

Our new house in Sherman, CT

Now we are getting settled in, most of our boxes are unpacked and gone, and we are getting into our routines. We still have some things to sort and put away – mostly in the basement and office, but we are getting there.

We’ll work on getting some more pictures up in the near future, and get back to posting more regularly. :-)

Putting up the Christmas Tree

Today we put up our Christmas Tree. Mateo had a lot of fun helping Papa put the lights on the tree and putting ornaments on it. Here are a few pictures:

Building a Gingerbread House

November 21st, 2009 Posted in Family by Jose | No Comments »

Mateo’s pre-school had a Gingerbread house building event. So we went down and built a gingerbread house. It was a lot of fun, and Mateo had a great time alternating between eating a piece of candy and sticking one onto the house. We took a few pictures which we have attached below.

New hosting provider

November 1st, 2009 Posted in Website by Jose | No Comments »

I had been quite happy with the service I was getting from IXWebhosting for a few years, but after a few unexpected outages and the lack of secure email support, I started to look around for another provider. The final push came when I requested PHP5 support on the server and was only given the option to move to a new server with them – which required that I make a backup of the entire site, and recreate it on their new server and it all had to be done within 2 weeks of starting.

Well since I had to rebuild the site, I figured I should look for a new provider and because I only do this as a hobby, would give myself 3 or 4 weeks to do it, but in worst case scenario, I have my old hosting account until March 2010. So, I have moved to Arvixe and if you see this post you are on the new server :-)

So far the experience has been quite seemless, and I hope you also find the new server performs faster.

Our September 2009 European Trip

October 4th, 2009 Posted in Family, Switzerland, Trips by kordinas | No Comments »

It was a year in the making and finally September 2009 arrived.  Kate’s parent’s, Shel and Caroline, finally came to visit us in Switzerland and we kept them super busy!!!  We did a few day trips around Switzerland and then we were off to Rome, London, Paris, Palma de Mallorca and Germany.  All that in just under a month!  We all had a great time and only caught small colds at the end of our trip.  We took over 2,000 photos but we narrowed it down to the best ones we hope.  We hope you enjoy the photos.

Berschnerfall Hike

August 5th, 2009 Posted in Switzerland, Trips by Jose | No Comments »

We took a small hike near Walenstadt to a 46m (150ft approx) tall waterfall nestled in the woods. It was about 45 minutes to get there and some of the terrain was quite difficult for Mateo. The waterfall was quite pretty, and we had lunch on the footbridge near the falls. Unfortunately Mateo spiked a fever while we were eating lunch, so we had to head back home with Mateo riding piggy back most of the way back. Mateo is doing just fine – he had the fever through the evening and was fine by the next morning.

Here are some pictures we took -

Our trip to Europa-Park

July 24th, 2009 Posted in Family, Trips by kordinas | No Comments »

We took a trip to Europa-Park in Germany.  Jose and I took advantage of the Child-Swap so we could each ride the coasters and bigger rides.  Mateo surprised us by going on a lot of rides and pretty big ones too! Not a lot of pictures because we were too busy enjoying the rides :)   It reminded me of Bush Gardens in Williamsburg with themed countries. A fun trip for the whole family!
